Telenovela et révolution : l’année 1977 au Portugal
Quels furent les contextes de la diffusion, en 1977, de la telenovela brésilienne « Gabriela, girofle et cannelle » ? Quel était le contexte historique et politique qui a précédé cette période, notamment en ce qui concerne les médias ? Le choix du corpus – deux quotidiens (le Diário de Notícias et le Diário de Lisboa) et deux hebdomadaires (l’Expresso et O Jornal) – est justifié par la spécificité des méthodologies utilisées dans l’analyse de la presse. Le relevé de la couverture de la telenovela « Gabriela, girofle et cannelle » est suivi dans les quatre journaux sélectionnés, en le confrontant à la chronologie, plus large, de l’expansion et de la diffusion de l’industrie culturelle brésilienne au Portugal. On peut considérer que le succès de cette telenovela anticipe l’émergence, au Portugal, d’une société nouvelle et de styles de vie centrés sur la consommation et les médias.

Telenovela e revolução : O ano de 1977 em Portugal
Neste trabalho pretende-se apresentar os contextos da visionação, em 1977, da telenovela brasileira Gabriela, Cravo e Canela. Inicia-se a exposição fazendo uma breve introdução ao momento histórico e político que antecedeu este período, nomeadamente, no que se refere à Comunicação Social. Justifica-se a escolha do Corpus – dois diários (o Diário de Notícias, o Diário de Lisboa) e dois semanários (o Expresso e O Jornal) – explicitando-se as metodologias utilizadas na análise de imprensa. Faz-se o levantamento da agenda da telenovela Gabriela, Cravo e Canela nos quatro jornais seleccionados, confrontando-a com outra agenda, mais lata, da expansão e divulgação da indústria cultural brasileira em Portugal. Considera-se que o êxito desta telenovela antecipa a emergência, em Portugal, de uma nova sociedade e estilos de vida, centrados no consumo e nos media.

Telenovela and Revolution : the Year 1977 in Portugal
This article attempts to present the context in which the Brazilian telenovela «Gabriela, Cravo e Canela» was watched in 1977. The paper starts by making a short introduction to the historical and political setting which preceded this period by examining what was happening in the media at that time. A justification is given for the media organs chosen – two daily newspapers (Diário de Notícias and Diário de Lisboa) and two weekly newspapers (Expresso and O Jornal) – setting out the methodologies used in analysing the press coverage. A survey is made of the coverage given in these four newspapers of the telenovela «Gabriela, Cravo e Canela», setting this against another, broader phenomenon, that of the expansion and spreading of the Brazilian cultural industry in Portugal. It is considered that the success of this telenovela was the forerunner of the emergence in Portugal of a new society and life styles centred on consumption and the media.
